Mazda SKYACTIV automatic transmission

Mazda has been developing a whole new set of technology improvements under the name of SkyActive, due the increased efficiency and friendliness to the environment of the new developed parts.
One of this parts, is the new 6 speed automatic transmission, that seems to have all the benefits:
- shift times fast as a manual Mx-5 tranny
- 7% increased fuel consumption and obviously less CO2 in the air
- smoothness in city drive
- lightweight design
The video below explains the new SkyActive technology and how this transmission is made of both a automatic torque converter and manual clutch. Probably it will be available for the next RX-8/RX-9 model to come in around 2013.
